This Week in Screenings 6/6-6/12

Friday 6/6

KUNG FU PANDA 4 | Galaxy Theatres Austin | Movie Theatre

They made four of these? I think I’ve only seen two.

His Girl Friday | Alamo Drafthouse

These people are the best at talking.

KOKOMO CITY | Hyperreal Film Club

Presented by Queertopia.

Beautifully shot documentary.

SHALL WE DANCE? | Austin Film Society

The original Japanese one that makes so much more sense than the remake.

Why would Richard Gere be embarrassed about dancing.

IN MY SKIN | Austin Film Society

Part of the Lates series.

Ooh the French.

Saturday 6/7

Babe | Paramount Theatre

That song the farmers sings makes me tear up.

Ghost + Body Heat | Paramount Theatre

OK Ghost I’m gonna let you finish, but Body Heat is the sweatiest movie of all time.

Bride of Chucky | Alamo Drafthouse

We are so lucky to have two Child’s Play movies in one week.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (18+) | Lake Creek 7

It’s that time again.

Sunday 6/8

Pee Wee's Big Adventure | Paramount Theatre

Been watching that documentary and I really love that guy.

Surfs Up | We Luv Video

This is getting a lot of love recently.

Dogma: Resurrected | IPIC Theater

It’s at IPIC now.

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers | Flix Brewhouse

The extended edition.

The second one.

TWILIGHT | Galaxy Theatres Austin | Movie Theatre | Violet Crown

I saw a video the other day with all the weird mistakes in this movie.

Makes me want to watch it again.

The Great Gatsby | Flix Brewhouse

You can see where that Leonardo DiCaprio meme came from.

Pan's Labyrinth | Paramount Theatre

My favorite children’s movies are the dark ones.

Always have been.

Monday 6/9

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water | Cinemark

Matt Berry is in this.

The Iron Giant | Flix Brewhouse

I recently watched the Mission Impossible Brad Bird directed.

This movie is better.

Shrek | Lake Creek 7

The first Shrek.

Kino's Journey | We Luv Video

Part of the Animondays series.

The first 4 episodes of the series.

BOTTOMS | Hyperreal Film Club

It’s Gameday! Get Horny!

ONCE UPON A TIME... IN HOLLYWOOD | Galaxy Theatre

Part of the Pitt Stop series.

I saw this at The Ritz back when that was a thing.

Tuesday 6/10

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish | Regal

This movie is so pretty.

Sing 2 | Regal

McConaughey does a Koala accent.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift | Flix Brewhouse

I’ve still never seen any of these but I’ve heard this one is either the best or the worst.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 | Alamo Drafthouse

Satisfying ending IMO.

REAR WINDOW | Austin Film Society

Often imitated movie.

That would by my crossword puzzle clue.

You’ve Got Mail | Alamo Drafthouse

Celine Song likes this movie.

The Night of the Hunter | Paramount Theatre

Should I get those tattoos?

BOOM! | Austin Film Society

Camp! Happy Pride month.

BLUE | Hyperreal Film Club

This is such a difficult day for movies because I want to see everything but mostly this

When will you get the chance to see this in a theater again?

Species II | Alamo Drafthouse

Part of the Terror Tuesday series

From the guy that brought you Zorro, The Gay Blade

Wednesday 6/11

Blazing Saddles | Cinepolis

$5 screening

Funny movie.

Freak Orlando | We Luv Video

Its a book club meeting so you have to read Virginia Woolf’s Orlando but then you get to watch this weird movie.

PAST LIVES | Hyperreal Film Club

And then go watch Celine Song’s new movie The Materialists on Thursday.

The marketing for that movie is really giving Whit Stillman.

Nothing But Trouble | Alamo Drafthouse

As a kid I really loved this Dan Aykroyd movie

I think it’s the only thing he directed.

Thursday 6/12

KILLER OF SHEEP | Austin Film Society

Premiered in 1978 and then not widely screened until 2007 because of music rights.

See it in the theater when you can.

It’s a great movie.

28 DAYS LATER | Hyperreal Film Club

I heard 28 Years Later is very good and I hope it is.

But it was from someone with whom I almost always disagree.

The Red Shoes + Black Swan | Paramount Theatre Austin

Red Shoes is so much better in a movie theater than on any other screen.

Also there is a live performance.
