The vitals:
7:00 ~ Doors
7:30 ~ DOG DAY AFTERNOON
When Dog Day Afternoon premiered in 1975 it was met with almost unanimous accolades. Its release corresponding with the close of the Vietnam War amplified an anti-authoritarian theme that struck a chord with the disillusioned audiences of the mid ’70s, citizens that had largely lost trust in the government. Dog Day Afternoon is a fascinating masterwork of shifting tone, propelled by the magnetic and nuanced performance of Al Pacino. It adapts for the screen the events of a true story—a disastrous bank heist which escalated into a hostage situation. Despite the fact that these events took place in 1972, the story depicted in this film takes on a haunting relevance when viewed through a 2025 filter. —Bailey Moore
