The vitals:
7:00 ~ Doors
7:30 ~ EL MARIACHI
Part of our Hispanic Heritage Month series co-presented with Cine Las Americas.
Shot on a shoestring budget in Cuidad Acuna, El Mariachi is a neo-Western that moves with an undeniable rhythm, flowing like the dulcet tones of Carlos Gallardo’s nameless guitar-slinger. You can feel Rodriguez’s passion for the medium in every piece of the movie, turning his creative vision into kinetic action sequences full of blood-filled squibs, dreamy romance, and wry humor.
The film would go on to be preserved in the Library of Congress for its cultural significance and kick-started Robert Rodiguez’s career into what it is today. —Henry Del Bosque
