This Week in Screenings 3/15-3/21

Friday 3/15

The Princess Diaries | Alamo Drafthouse

Julie Andrews movie.

3 Women | Alamo Drafthouse

This is a really good movie.

Caravaggio | Elisabet Ney Museum

Celebrate the Ides of March* with Hyperreal film club by watching this beautiful Derek Jarman movie.

*This movie has nothing to do with the Ides of March.

Above the Rim | Alamo Drafthouse

I wanna watch more Tupac movies.

The Flintstones (1994) | Alamo Drafthouse

Great casting.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl | Alamo Drafthouse

I can’t remember if this is the first one.

They all kinda blend together for me.

Spring Breakers | EastSide Cinema

The Harmony Korine movie where James Franco plays RiFF RAFF.

 Suspiria (2018) | Alamo Drafthouse

Tilda Swinton is a good actor.

Saturday 3/16

Shrek | Regal

If you have a kid and they haven’t seen Shrek.

Tron (1982) | Alamo Drafthouse

I think today’s kids would be bored.

Prove me wrong, today’s kids.

Four Weddings and a Funeral | Alamo Drafthouse

All I remember about this movie is thinking they were cool for having a gay friend.

 Inglourious Basterds | FlixBrewhouse

It looks like they have swapped out Miyazaki for Tarantino and are doing another series.

 Batman (1989) | Violet Crown

What an iconic movie.

Sunday 3/17

Just in time for St Patrick’s Day we have:

In the Name of the Father | Alamo Drafthouse

The Departed | FlixBrewhouse

Leprechaun | Violet Crown Cinema

The Twilight Saga: New Moon Movie Party | Alamo Drafthouse

It’s actually April 8th.

When Harry Met Sally | FlixBrewhouse

It’s a restaurant so you can do the joke.

Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome | Cinemark

This was my introduction to Tina Turner.

JURASSIC PARK | Galaxy

$5 screening of the dinosaur classic.

The Fugitive | Cinépolis | Alamo Drafthouse

It’s a $5 screening at Cinepolis.

 SLAM | Austin Film Society

Slam Poetry movie starring Saul Williams.

I really like Saul Williams. I got to see them live once.

LAST THINGS | Austin Film Society

Documentary about the geo-biosphere.

Looks like one of those movies you need to see in a theater or you won’t really appreciate it.

Will screen in 35mm and then again digitally on 3/20.

The End of Evangelion (1997) |  Cinemark | Alamo Drafthouse | Regal | AMC

I just watched this series for the first time so I’m excited to see what this is all about.

Monday 3/18

Persepolis | Violet Crown Cinema

Animated movie based on the graphic novel.

Tuesday 3/19

Crooklyn | Alamo Drafthouse

Good Spike Lee joint.

Gummo | Alamo Drafthouse

Tickets are running low for this one.

I guess it was a good idea to screen it.

TAIPEI STORY | Austin Film Society

Part of an Edward Yang series.

Gotta fill in my Yang gaps.

Noroi: The Curse | Alamo Drafthouse

Part of the Terror Tuesday series.

Seems to be sold out but you never know.

Wednesday 3/20

The Matrix | AMC

Not a bad idea to regularly watch this movie in a theater.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior | Cinépolis

Not the best gay representation but I’m glad they exist.

The Shawshank Redemption | Regal

This has got to sell out, right?

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier | Alamo Drafthouse

Part of the Weird Wednesday series.

This screening will be presented by Andrew Bujalski.

Thursday 3/21

Selena | Violet Crown Cinema

If you live in TX and you haven’t seen this already you should probably go see it.

It’s kinda important.

Rad | Cinemark | Regal

Cool movie about bicycles.

Rabid | EastSide Cinema

1977 David Cronenberg movie.
