This Week in Screenings 7/5-7/1

Friday 7/5

CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS | Galaxy Theatre

Cool giant food animation.

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation | Alamo Drafthouse

I haven’t seen any of these but there’s two in theaters this week.

The first one is playing at Lake Creek 7 on Monday.

Apparently it’s directed by Genndy Tartakovsky with music by Mark Mothersbaugh.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 | Violet Crown

This time with Tails.

Top Secret! | Alamo Drafthouse

Wacky comedy with Val Kilmer in his first role.

Body Double | Alamo Drafthouse

Brian De Palma copies one part of this movie in his Mission Impossible movie.

Dirty Dancing + Footloose | Paramount Theatre

Two classic 80’s dancing movies.

Or one of.

Cold War fanfic.

Love Streams | Alamo Drafthouse

John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands movie as part of the 1984 series.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show | Lake Creek 7

It looks like this theater has established itself as the place to watch Rocky Horror

The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari | We Luv Video

They are going to screen this with a live score by David Didonato.

THE MASK | Galaxy Theatre

Jim Carrey as The Mask.

Jaws | Paramount Theatre

You can watch this safe inside the theater knowing a shark can’t get you there.

Bound | Museum of Human Achievement

Presented as part of the Dyke Car Wash (or bike).

Looks like an outdoor screening following the wash, not a drive in screening, so bring a blanket or chair.

The event is creating a space for dykes of all genders since there’s fewer than 40 dyke bars left in the country.

Point Break | Paramount Theatre

Presented by Hyperreal Film Club.

A must see for Kathryn Bigelow completists.

Monday 7/8

The Lego Movie | Cinemark

Good movie.

Sing | AMC

Matthew McConaughey movie, apparently.

Fantastic Mr. Fox | Alamo Drafthouse

This is my favorite Wes Anderson movie.

Tuesday 7/9

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse | Regal

I keep saying I’m gonna watch this again but then I don’t.

I’m glad I keep getting chances though.

Wet Hot American Summer | Flix Brewhouse

I think this is a Gen X comedy.

Even though it was made in 2001 it’s all Gen X comedians and it has that feel about it.

9 to 5 | Paramount Theatre

Don’t you just love them gals.

TALE OF CINEMA | Austin Film Society

Part of the Hong Sang Soo series.

One of those movie in a movie things.

Kim Sang-kyung and Uhm Ji-won in Tales of Cinema.

The Grapes of Death | Alamo Drafthouse

Part of the Terror Tuesday series.

It’s a French horror movie this time.

Wednesday 7/10

It’s part of their book club so they will be reading the graphic novel and then attending this screening.

Barbie |Cinépolis

$5 screening if you want to see it on a big screen one more time.

Muriel's Wedding & Dogs in Space | Paramount Theatre

Double feature of Australian movies.

In Muriel's Wedding we fell in love with Toni Collette.

In Dogs in Space we exhausted ourselves trying to keep up with Michael Hutchence.

Gwendoline | Alamo Drafthouse

Part of the Weird Wednesday series.

The creator of Emmanuelle made this Indiana Jones type movie.

Thursday 7/11
