This Week in Screenings 6/28-7/4

Friday 6/28

THE SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS MOVIE | Galaxy Theatre

I’ve been listening to a lot of Spongebob rap lately.

A large cartoon fish wearing spiked boots, about to step on a much smaller Spongebob and Patrick.

The Lego Movie | Violet Crown

Started a whole thing with kinds of movies.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens | Alamo Drafthouse

This was a big deal when it came out and now doesn’t feel like such a big deal.

Dirty Dancing | Blue Starlite Central

One of my Grandmother’s favorite movies.

Good movie.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show | Paramount Theatre

I wonder if they are gonna do the whole thing that people do when this movie is screened.

Saturday 6/29

An American Tail: Fievel Goes West | Alamo Drafthouse

I probably watched this at least once a week as a kid.

Joy Sticks | We Luv Video

80’s sex comedy.

I want to see it, I bet it’s terrible.

The Last of the Mohicans Brunch | Alamo Drafthouse

Interesting choice for brunch.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert Brunch | Alamo Drafthouse

Now this is a brunch movie.

Twister | Blue Starlite Downtown

I don’t think we needed another one of these.

This one is enough.

Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton run from a Twister.

Independence Day | Alamo Drafthouse

To get you in the mood for the 4th.

Easy Rider | Alamo Drafthouse

I guess this is to get you in the mood for The Bikeriders.

Stranger by the Lake | Alamo Drafthouse

Best thriller set at a cruising spot since Cruising

Sunday 6/30

Who Framed Roger Rabbit | Paramount Theatre

I remember my mind being blown when Mikey and Bugs Bunny are on screen at the same time.

JAWS | Galaxy Theatre

Or at Alamo Drafthouse on Monday.

You’ll never want to go to the beach again!

Born on the Fourth of July | Alamo Drafthouse

Part of the 1989 series, just in time for the actual 4th of July.

License to Kill (1989) | Alamo Drafthouse

It’s the 1989 James Bond movie.

Beijing Watermelon | Alamo Drafthouse

Recently played at AFS, but if you missed it check it out at the Alamo.

Or watch it Monday at AFS.

I Am Not Your Negro + If Beale Street Could Talk | Paramount Theatre

I’m pretty sure its the same price if you see one or both.

So why not both.

Vegas in Space — We Luv Video

1991 Science Fiction Comedy.

Released by Troma starring Drag Queens.

Looks insane I bet it’s good.

Monday 7/1

Dr. Seuss' The Lorax | AMC

I liked the book better.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse | Southwest Theater Lake Creek 7

I think this is worth watching again.

This is the second one.

The Parent Trap (1998) | Alamo Drafthouse

Lindsay Lohan classic.

Chinatown | Paramount Theatre

That nose thing always hurts to watch.

Monday Mystery Movie | Regal

PG-13 2 hrs and 22 min.

Screen Unseen | AMC.

PG 13 2 hrs and 20 min.

Probably the same movie.

I Know What You Did Last Summer | Alamo Drafthouse

Will also screen as Part of Terror Tuesday in 35mm.

Go Fish | Alamo Drafthouse

Lesbians hipsters or maybe hippies.

WOMAN IS THE FUTURE OF MAN | Austin Film Society

They are starting a series of movies by Hong Sang-Soo.

Very curious to see what these are like.

Apparently they get compared to Eric Rohmer, and I like those movies.

Tuesday 7/2

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse | Regal

This is the first one.

The Bodyguard | Paramount Theatre

Gonna be hard not to sing along.

STALKER | Austin Film Society

Andrei Tarkovsky sci-fi for hipsters.

But for real it’s good.

Alexander Kaidanovsky in Stalker, laying down in a wet ravine. A dog stands nearby.

Wednesday 7/3

Out of the Past + Dark City | Paramount Theatre

Noir movie followed up with a Neo Noir movie.

Tank Girl | Alamo Drafthouse

Comic book movie as part of Weird Wednesday.

There’s a kangaroo in it.

Thursday 7/4

Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark | Blue Starlite Central

Happy 4th y’all.
