This Week in Screenings 5/24 - 5/30

Friday 5/24

I couldn’t get the website to load for the Alamo Drafthouse.

So no links.

But they are playing Rogue One and Solo at the Village location.

Casablanca + Top Hat | Paramount Theatre

The 50th Annual Paramount Summer Classic Film Series starts today.

Couple of bangers.

CURIOUS GEORGE | Galaxy

I’d rather see a reboot of George than the new Garfield but that’s just me.

But then they would probably still have Chris Pratt voice him.

I Know What You Did Last Summer | Blue Starlite Downtown

Not as good as Scream but still fun.

PICKUP ON SOUTH STREET | Austin Film Society

Part of the Noir Canon series.

Richard Widmark as an anti-hero.

THE PRINCESS AND THE WARRIOR | Austin Film Society

You’ve seen Run Lola Run but now see what they did after.

Saturday 5/25

JURASSIC PARK | Blue Starlite Central

For the 30th anniversary.

They are playing Sidewalk Stories at the Drafthouse. It's part of the 1989 time capsule series. They seem to have at least one deep cut each series

THE CHILDREN | EastSide Cinema

More promotion for the Erica Schultz book The Sweetest Taboo

Sin City | Paramount Theatre

Robert Rodriguez is back at the Paramount this year.

This screening has a Q&A.

Sunday 5/26

BACK TO THE FUTURE | Galaxy

The classic time travel movie with that new sound you’ve been looking for.

All week at Blue Starlite Central and Downtown.

It's playing at the Drafthouse Saturday.

Star Wars: A New Hope | Paramount Theatre

I wonder which version this is.

Its also at the Alamo Drafthouse Village on Monday.

Phantom of the Paradise | Paramount Theatre

What a great venue to see this movie.

They are playing Bride of Re-Animator, Patton, and Good Morning Vietnam at the Alamo Drafthouse. You know, for Memorial Day.

Monday 5/27

Alamo is showing the Korean movie I Saw The Devil, the 1989 Batman, Road House presented by Queer Film Theory, and Mystery Transmission is showing something related to Freddy Kruger.

Despicable Me (2010) | Lake Creek 7

The Minions are in this.

Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) | Cinemark | AMC | Regal

Jake Gyllenhaal was good in this IMO.

It's also at the Alamo Drafthouse.

Saving Private Ryan | Flix Brewhouse

Remember when they showed this uncensored on TV.

GOBLIN LIVE: DAWN OF THE DEAD | Paramount Theatre

Not really a movie screening, but so adjacent I felt it should be included.

GOD’S STEPCHILDREN | Austin Film Society

Part of this Oscar Micheaux series.

Sounds like an interesting, maybe problematic, examination of colorism.

Mermaid | Hotel Vegas

Hyperreal Film Club presents.

I had no idea Stephen Chow made a mermaid movie.

Looks good.

Tuesday 5/28

Young Frankenstein | Paramount Theatre

Madeline Kahn, Cloris Leachman and Teri Garr steal the show.

Terror Tuesday at the Alamo Drafthouse is sold out but it's Nightmare on Elm Street 4.

Wednesday 5/29

Knocked Up | Cinépolis

Judd Apatow movie about getting pregnant.

The Godfather Part II | Paramount Theatre

50th Anniversary screening.

After this one looks like they are gonna take a break with the movies for the Austin TV festival.

The Crow | Flix Brewhouse | Cinemark | Regal

30th Anniversary screening.

I heard they are remaking this.

GILDA | Austin Film Society

Part of the Noir Canon.

This is the movie where Rita Hayworth does the hair flip.

Weird Wednesday at the Alamo Drafthouse is Riki Oh: The Story of Ricky.

Gore action maybe comedy?

Thursday 5/30

Urgh A Music War | EastSide Cinema

1981 British movie with punk, new wave bands from the time.

This screening with have a DJ set beforehand.

Desert Hearts - Museum of Human Achievement

Drive-in screening with DJ set from Boi Orbison for Neon Rainbows.
