Fantastic Fest 2025: Preview
Fantastic Fest 2025 is finally here, and I couldn’t be more excited. This film festival has showcased some of the best upcoming films in horror and also premiered some of the best films of the past few decades. From secret screenings to off-the-wall showings, Fantastic Fest has a little something for everyone. These are a few things that I’m excited for, in a stacked roster of things I’m excited for.
Sirat
This desert-rave-hell-road movie made waves at Cannes this year, and judging by the trailer, I can see why. It looks loud, imposing, and like it has a lot of creative ideas to throw around. I mean, Mad Max meets Gaspar Noe’s CLIMAX? I’m in.
Shelby Oaks
I’ve been following this one for quite some time, primarily because of its director. Chris Stuckmann started off as a film critic on YouTube, and then one day he announced that he was taking a step back from criticism to develop a project of his own.
PRIMATE
Monkey movie. Killer monkey movie. Not much is really known about this, but killer monkey movie has me intrigued.
ANGEL’S EGG
Admittedly, a blind spot for me, the 4K remaster has me interested. I’ve only known ANGEL’S EGG to exist on YouTube in a 480p file, so this is a welcome remaster. Mamoru Oshii alone is enough to get my butt into a seat, and this seems like the best way to experience this film.

Blake Williams has a B.A. in Film and Television Production from Ball State University. He aspires to one day be a director, but until that day comes you can find him at a showing of whatever's playing that day or at home alphabetizing a shelf of movies and games and muttering about how he should "slow down on spending."
