This Week in Screenings 8/18-8/24

Keep your eyes peeled for Quetch.
See the 4k restoration of a movie that probably introduced me to Korean cinema.
Also playing at Austin Film Society and apparently AMC.
Saturday 8/19
Clash of the Titans | Paramount Theatre
Not the remake.
This one has cool stop motion monsters.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban | Alamo Drafthouse
I think this is supposed to be the best one.
$5 screening.
Big screen to watch that surreal viking bowling scene.
Beauty and the Beast (1991) Cinemark
Tale as old as time.
School of Rock | Blue Starlite Downtown
Richard Linklater and Jack Black making a solid movie.
RAISING ARIZONA | Austin Film Society
You should go see this if you like to laugh and have a good time.
Sunday 8/20
I’ve never seen The Notebook and I have no desire to ever see it.
But it’s playing a lot this week at Galaxy and Bluestarlite.
Maybe I’m in the wrong here but only time will tell.
Studio Ghibli pig movie.
Better than it sounds.
Spirited Away (Dubbed) | Alamo Drafthouse
A lot of Studio Ghibli movies this week.
The movie that posits, what if a child was suddenly Big.
Another chance to see this with a crowd.
Hana-bi (Fireworks) | Paramount Theatre
Presented by Hyperreal Film Club
First time I ever saw Takeshi Kitano it was as a host of the US dub of Takeshi’s Castle, Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. The second time I ever saw him was in this. Truly a renaissance man.
Monday 8/21
The Wind Rises | Violet Crown | AMC | Cinemark | Regal
This was going to be Hayao Miyazaki’s last movie but then he changed his mind.
Presented by Hyperreal Film Club.
Doesn’t that look great!
Tuesday 8/22
Shadow of a Doubt | Paramount Theatre
Starting out strong for the Hitchcock portion of the Paramount Summer Series.
Where the Wild Things Are | Alamo Drafthouse
Spike Jonze’s take on Maurice Sendak’s book.
NANNY MCPHEE | Galaxy Theatres
Emma Thompson wrote and starred in this and I think it's charming.
Jeanne Moreau pays tribute to one of the first movie stars.
AGFA Horrifying Mystery Movie Week 4 | Alamo Drafthouse
Part of the Terror Tuesday series.
Might be Troll 2.
Last I checked there were a couple of seats.
Wednesday 8/23
I always notice the cargo pants in this movie.
Part of the Champagne Cinema series.
Sounds fun.
Searching for Sugar Man | Violet Crown
Screening in memory of Sixto "Sugar Man" Rodriguez who recently passed.
AGFA Weirdo Mystery Movie Week 4 | Alamo Drafthouse
Part of the Weird Wednesday series.
Looks like it’s gonna be a Kung Fu movie.
Thursday 8/24
Literally changed how we watch movies.
Martin Scorsese made this documentary about The Band’s final performance.
If you’re into that sort of thing.
I’m gay and I watch a lot of movies
