This Week in Screening 8/11-8/17

Everytime this is shown it’s the movie event of the year!

Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure | Blue Starlite Downtown

Also playing at the Alamo on 8/13

A real American Hero.

The Princess Bride | Blue Starlite Downtown

Inconceivable.

TOKYO POP | Austin Film Society

This looks really sweet. Kind of a reprieve as the Lates series has been dark as of late.

Saturday 8/12

The Truman Show | Paramount Theatre

Such a referenced movie.

Valley Girl (1983) | Alamo Drafthouse

Starring Nicolas Cage. I always like watching movies where he’s supposed to be the hearthrob. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

Sunday 8/13

101 Dalmatians | Paramount Theatre

I’ve always loved the title sequence in this movie. I feel like it’s an influence on Monsters Inc as well.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets | Alamo Drafthouse

The second one.

Network | Paramount Theatre

Still so relevant. You’re gonna want to scream out of your window.

Enter the Dragon | Cinemark | Violet Crown

It’s the 50th Anniversary.

Shrek 2 Swamp Party | Alamo Drafthouse

They are going to hand out props.

Heathers | Alamo Drafthouse

The movie Heathers with a brunch menu.

It’s general admission which I don’t know that I’ve ever seen before at this theater.

Monday 8/14

Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! | Hotel Vegas

Presented by Hyperreal Film Club.

Another great Drag Road Trip Movie.

They should make this a genre.

Coraline (remastered) | Cinemark | Regal

Henry Selic, who really made Nightmare Before Christmas, also made this movie. They appear to be showing it in 2D.

Monday Mystery Movie | Regal

They are showing a movie that’s coming out soon before it’s release date so they can’t tell you which one

The Toxic Avenger Part II | Alamo Drafthouse

It looks like Alamo is gonna do a Toxie series. It’s more fun to watch Troma movies with a crowd.

THE WICKER MAN | Austin Film Society

Love this movie. Maybe my favorite movie soundtrack, too.

Tuesday 8/15

Animal House | Paramount Theatre

I’ve heard this doesn’t age well.

AN ADOLESCENT GIRL | Austin Film Society

Part of the Essential Cinema series.

Directed by Jeanne Moreau.

She only directed three movies and they are gonna show them all. As a completist I appreciate this.

Shiva Baby | Alamo Drafthouse

Directed by Emma Seligman of Bottoms and starring Rachel Sennott of Bottoms and Bodies Bodies Bodies.

Wednesday 8/16

Ferris Bueller's Day Off | Paramount Theatre

That darn kid.

Oldboy (2003) | Alamo Drafthouse

There were earlier screenings but they all sold out. These are going fast. Will also play at the Austin Film Society starting on 8/19

Thursday 8/17

Alien | Paramount Theatre

Such a great movie.
