This Week in Screenings 6/23-6/29
Friday 6/23
Midsommar | Blue Starlite Mueller
The Fika Table will be there with Swedish snacks.
Barry Jenkins’ beautiful best picture winner.
Heard he’s making the new Lion King prequel.
Saturday 6/24
Filmed on an iPhone playing at the Stateside.
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert | Paramount Theatre
One year I was attending Fantastic Fest and when I got home my roommate was watching To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. He had just started so I watched it with him and then I realized he had never seen Priscilla so we watched that too. Good times.
Sunday 6/25
Lawrence of Arabia | Paramount Theatre
I don’t think they have a 70mm projector anymore.
For me a DCP in this theater can still have that big cinematic feel. Like an old roadshow.
Beautiful French animation for brunch.
DIRTY DANCING | Galaxy Theatres
This was my grandmother’s favorite movie
Monday 6/26
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Movie Party | Alamo Drafthouse
Great soundtrack. I really liked the comic so I’m still glad this movie wasn’t bad.
The Land Before Time | Alamo Drafthouse
Part of the Kids Camp thing Alamo is doing.
You can really tell Elton John had a lot of control over this movie because they cast Taron Egerton to play him.
Mystery Transmission 001 | Alamo Drafthouse
Video Vortex is back
This time it’s a banned 1980’s underground film with some shorts.
Presented by Hyperreal Film Club.
This one seems part of the zeitgeist. I saw a short by Martine Syms and liked it so I’m sure this is gonna be a good night.
Tuesday 6/27
PUSS IN BOOTS | Galaxy Theatres
They are showing the first of two Puss in Boots movies for $2.
The Age of Innocence | Paramount Theatre
Martin Scorcese movie set in turn of the century New York.
Infinity Pool – Uncut | Alamo Drafthouse
Grab a bucket of chicken.
I remember renting this from the gay and lesbian section of Blockbuster.
Better than most from that section.
Red Spell Spells Red | Alamo Drafthouse
Part of the Terror Tuesday Series.
Hong Kong horror movie now animal cruelty free.
Don’t forget your spoons.
Wednesday 6/28
Dangerous Liaisons | Paramount Theatre
Period Cruel Intentions.
Part of the Doll Parts: 70 Years of Trans Cinema series
Criminal Buddy Comedy.
This series has been really good.
Flux Gourmet | Alamo Drafthouse Cinema
Part of the Weird Wednesday series
Peter Strickland’s most recent movie. It’s like absurdist but still very dry. Also Weird Weds is always a good crowd for movies like this.
Thursday 6/29
Brian De Palma’s remake of a 1932 gangster movie.
Moonrise Kingdom | Violet Crown
Wes Anderson movie about summer camp.
A Little Romance | Laguna Gloria Amphitheater
In partnership with the Austin Film Society
The Austin Contemporary is showing this 1979 movie about two kids in France starring Diane Lane and Laurence Olivier
I’m gay and I watch a lot of movies
