This Week in Screenings 2/17-2/23

I want to watch more Lukas Moodysson. This looks very cool and likely depressing

Oscar Nominated Shorts Live Action and Animated

Playing now at AFS, Violet Crown, Regal, and also Alamo Drafthouse but in March

I love shorts and shorts programs, if you see a bad one it’ll be over soon

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon | Cinemark, Regal, and AMC

Big, the way it was meant to be seen

Saturday 2/18

Oscar Nominated Shorts | Documentary

This one isn’t playing as often as the other shorts programs. It’s longer too so be warned. It’s playing at Violet Crown more often than AFS

Bram Stoker’s Dracula | Blue Starlite Mueller

A lot of vampire movies are coming out soon. Should be fun to watch or rewatch this one in the woods. I've never done it but they say no car is needed.  I just like the sound of these screenings

Sunday 2/19

BAMBOOZLED | Austin Film Society

This movie is aggressive and I love it. Author of Facing Blackness will be in attendance and speak before the film.

MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS | Galaxy Theatres

They are showing the good one. The one with Lauren Bacall, Sean Connery, Anthony Perkins, Vanessa Redgrave, Ingrid Bergman and more!

Rogue One or Tron | Blue Starlite Downtown

To raise money after being robbed this drive-in is gonna show a heist movie

Monday 2/20

THE X-FILES at HOTEL VEGAS | Hyperreal Film Club

Gillian Anderson is so hot as Dana Katherine Scully, MD.

Also Mulder is quite the Fox

STORMING CAESARS PALACE | Austin Film Society

Documentary about direct action <3

The Harder They Come | Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

Jimmy Cliff in this classic movie that still feels relevant today

Written on the Wind | Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

It’s always worth watching a Douglas Sirk movie on a big screen

Tuesday 2/21

COMMITMENT HASAN | Austin Film Society

Part of the Children of Abraham/Ibrahim series at AFS. I am usually not familiar with these movies and then I hear about them for the rest of the year and regret missing the screening

Shocker | Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

I love the comment “What might happen if Freddy invaded Twin Peaks”

Wednesday 2/22

SAINT TERRORISM, UNK, and HIGH SCHOOL TERROR | Austin Film Society

More 8mm Japanese punk insanity

Coffy | Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

Never miss a Pam Grier movie if you can help it

Thursday 2/23

I don't really have anything for this day.

Go see a Cocaine Bear, or an 80 for Brady, or a Magic Mike's Last Dance.

If you missed Woman King and want to see it in a theater, AMC Barton Creek is showing it all week.

A lot of the Oscar Best Picture nominees are playing everywhere all at once.
