If you've only heard the name Shin Chan on Adult Swim, then it's probably safe to say you don't truly understand how much of a phenomenon this thing is. The manga alone is one of the highest-selling manga series in history; the show has been translated into 30 different languages, and most of this is virtually unknown here in the United States. Crayon Shin-chan: The Storm Called: The Adult Empire Strikes Back (say that three times fast) is considered one of the best animated features of all time and ranks No. 4 on Kinema Junpo's (the oldest Japanese film publication) list of best Japanese animated films ever, just below three Hayao Miyazaki-directed films and just above Akira. The movie ties together themes of nostalgia, the overwhelming weight of being an adult, and what childhood means as you age. Heavy stuff for the potty-mouthed, Action Bastard figure carrying Shinnosuke.
