Somewhere between DOG DAY AFTERNOON and SCARFACE, Al Pacino took up playing the most closeted man alive in William Friedkin's psychological thriller CRUISING. As a serial killer rips through New York's leather bars, Pacino's naive undercover cop dons his jock and goes in deep – elbow deep – to catch the perpetrator. As he closes in, the boundaries between hunter and hunted blur, and soon nothing is what it seems.
Decried by gay organizers upon release and deemed "irredeemably sick and violent" by TV Guide, the controversial CRUISING has since come into its own as a snapshot of the New York S&M scene and one of Friedkin's most compelling films. Stylish, shadowy, and hormone-fueled, this is a movie you'll want to polish your boots for. After all, what better way to spend Valentine's than watching Pacino sweat into a leather jacket?
