The vitals:
7:00 ~ Doors
7:30 ~ GhostLight
Movies about Shakespeare are plentiful, but so many get wrapped up in the need to modernize and reshape the works, to justify through glitz, glamor, and money that it's an adapation of the (trailer voice) greatest playwright to ever live. Ghostlight swerves by isolating the focus down into what makes Shakespeare's plays continue to resonate across the centuries. In the film, a grieving father finds himself jobless and accidentally starring in a local community production of Romeo & Juliet as Romeo, a role that is all the more complicated by the fact that his own son recently killed himself. I'm not one to cry at movies, but Ghostlight made me weep, and it's got some of the finest acting you'll ever see on screen.
