In 1960 Alfred Hitchcock released his masterpiece (well, one of his masterpieces) PSYCHO--launching the entire slasher genre, as well as a few million Intro to Film Theory class essays. In 1998 Gus Van Sant released the greatest experimental film ever backed by a Hollywood studio--PSYCHO--somehow a hyperfaithful remake which also took wild liberties and managed to piss off everyone who saw it...except those who'd continued on to Advanced Film Theory (we loved it). In 2014 Steven Soderbergh, enjoying all the free time he has while directing-shooting-editing several movies per year, advanced beyond the Advanced and mashed the two movies together to post (not entirely legally) on his website.
