Have you ever seen a movie so insane that you instantly wonder if it’s real or if you just hallucinated it? Mind Game is that movie for me. The first time I saw this thing was on Adult Swim where it played on repeat, and I couldn’t get it out of my head. This was also my introduction to the work of one of my favorite people in animation, Masaaki Yuasa. 

Mind Game is something you have to see to believe. A colorful blend of animation styles, with a killer soundtrack to boot and a frantic story that sets the tone for the rest of Yuasa’s film career. When he was told that this blend of styles wouldn’t work, he said “well hell its worth a try to find out” and in my opinion laid down the blueprint for what’s become common place in animated films. Mind Game is worth your time.
