A low-budget thrill ride that justifies all the time spent looking through Tubi, back-alley bins, and the lowest-rated movies on Amazon Prime. Despiser is the kind of movie you see by accident and spend years of your life being obssesed with and bugging your friends to watch with you. And lest you mistake my excitement for mockery, this action thriller about a man fighting an alien devil in purgatory in a CGI-landscape features a wildly inventive visual language and sense of geography.

This is a movie made by a dreamer and its low-budget high-ambition daring is a credit to cinema in all forms.
