1958’s romantic comedy Bell, Book and Candle tells the story of a young shopowner and secret witch (Kim Novak) that disrupts her neighbor’s (Jimmy Stewart) impending marital plans simply because she is bored. With the help of her Siamese Cat familiar, Piewacket, she casts a love spell over her unwitting neighbor which before long, backfires with unforeseen consequences. Soon she’ll need to make a choice between her hidden world and the man that is quickly becoming more than a mere plaything.

Brimming with fun and alluring representations of magic, Bell, Book and Candle imagines a world of secret witches living alongside humans, meddling in their affairs in mischievous, mostly innocuous ways like the tricksters of lore.
