Released in December of 1994, this film closed out Jim Carrey’s annus mirabilis with a buddy comedy that ensured his place in the hearts of anyone lucky enough to be a school-aged kid when it came out. Dumb and Dumber introduces us to Lloyd Christmas, played by Carrey, and Harry Dunne, played by Jeff Daniels in his first comedic role. They are two friends respectively working as a limo driver and a dog groomer in Rhode Island’s capital. Lloyd quickly falls for a passenger who leaves a briefcase at the airport, leading to a cross-country trip involving kidnapping, bird decapitation, stomach ulcers, and a toilet scene that I’ve been using to test every home speaker system I set up.
