Nobody does it quite like Frank Henenlotter. Barely two years after the homoerotic puppet-worm triumph of BRAIN DAMAGE, this exploitation emperor released the third in his holy trinity of queer-tinged and gleefully perverse masterpieces: FRANKENHOOKER, aka "A TERRIFYING TALE OF SLUTS AND BOLTS."
When his fiancé winds up tossed salad beneath the blades of an automated lawnmower, mad scientist and generally weird Jersey guy Jeffrey Franken stitches her back together with the help of some "super-crack" and a roomful of dismembered prostitutes. She's reborn as the titular frankenfemme FRANKENHOOKER, and the streets of New York will never be the same.
Featuring incredible performances from both James Lorinz as an East Coast asshole and should-be superstar Patty Mullen as the scene-stealing monster, FRANKENHOOKER is an eye-popping, jaw-dropping camp romp that's more subversive than the title might imply. Far be it from us to declare this a gender cinema masterpiece, but haven't we all felt like a performance of womanhood lurching down the street with mismatched parts on our worst days? Well, maybe some of us. Come for the exploding bodies; stay for the feminist subtext.
