Fresh off the heels of Tsukamoto’s visually stunning TETSUO II: BODY HAMMER, TOKYO FIST is the first film to fuse the director’s souped-up visual flair with deft interpersonal drama, and a transitory work into his middle period of movies more focused on emotional states than giant metal penises. Don't get it twisted though – TOKYO FIST is a gory, grinding, and ultimately cathartic work which flies off the screen in a splatter of sweat and blood, all set to another banger soundtrack by industrial titan Chu Isakawa. If you can make it out without wanting a tattoo, a piercing, or to start boxing, well… you're probably more well-adjusted than we are.
