Hot off the heels of SAW II, III, and IV, director Darren Lynn Bousman turned his eye for the grotesque towards the hallowed halls of the movie musical. The stitched-together monster which emerged was REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA; an overstuffed, overdramatic, beautiful mess of a film. As excitable and eager to please as a caffeinated carnival barker, REPO pulls the curtain to reveal a 94-minute freakshow stuffed with painfully 2000s proto-MEGALOPOLIS dystopian madness - where else will you see Paris Hilton and the frontman of Skinny Puppy share a frame? We aren’t qualified enough to state that REPO is “good,” but we can comfortably say this is the most fun you’ll ever have with organ repossession. Just avoid the splash zone.
