FEMINIST HORROR WEEK NIGHT FIVE: HOME INVASION
7:00 ~ Doors
7:30 ~ Our First Haunted Home — Directed by Elizabeth Mims Director's description: A neurotic gay couple spiral out of control when their next door neighbor attempts to make a documentary about the sexually frustrated ghost haunting their home.
Followed by: TEETH
A young woman discovers that her body has developed a terrifying new form of self-defense, transforming her from a vulnerable target into something far more dangerous.
What happens when the things that are supposed to make us feel safe become something else entirely? HOME INVASION closes Feminist Horror Week with two films that turn the familiar into the uncanny, bringing horror into the home, the neighborhood, and the body itself. Elizabeth Mims' Our First Haunted Home follows a neurotic gay couple whose lives spiral out of control when their next door neighbor attempts to document the sexually frustrated ghost haunting their home. Mitchell Lichtenstein's Teeth follows Dawn O'Keefe, a young abstinence advocate whose body develops a terrifying anatomical mutation, giving her a new and unexpected form of protection against the men who seek to harm her.
Filmed in and around Austin, Teeth brings Hamilton Pool, Krause Springs, Austin neighborhoods, and local streets into a darkly comic story about sexuality, repression, violence, and bodily autonomy. Paired with Mims' haunted domestic comedy, the films ask what happens when the spaces and bodies we are expected to inhabit begin making their own rules.
Join Alexis Hunter and Faiza Kracheni for the closing night of Feminist Horror Week as the INVASIVE SPECIES 2 invasion comes home, crawls under the floorboards, and bites back."
