HYPERREAL FILM CLUB ANNOUNCES AKIRA:
LIVE SCORED BY THE SWITCHED ON ENSEMBLE
Thirty years ago, Akira changed film and animation forever. It now stands as perhaps a pillar of more genres than any other work of art. From sci-fi to cyber punk, anime to fashion, its influence knows no bounds. Now, HFC intends to not only celebrate its influence on the art of today and the future, but to blow up the cinema experience, using the powers of placemaking, friendship and art to create an insanely unique, immmersive and local version of the theater-going practice we all hold so dearly.
The HFC team will transform the 8,000 sq ft warehouse space located at the Austin School of Film into a pop-up Akira-themed movie theater. Attendants will be ushered into the space beginning at 7pm for a cocktail hour, where they can expect a photo booth, installations, small bites prepared on site by Austin Daily Press, limited edition and event specific t-shirts available in collaboration with Raw Paw, vintage electronics to play with courtesy of Switched On, and beverages donated by Balcones Distillery and Big Swig.
The Switched On Ensemble, a new supergroup of employees from Austin’s synthesizer headquarters featuring Joey Postiglione, Patrick Edwards, and Ju4n Cisneros will perform a once-in-a-lifetime, concrete-shaking, brain-searing original score in accompaniment of the film at 8pm.
100% of of ticket proceeds goes towards paying screening rights, venue fees, and artist stipends, helping to ensure that HFC can continue to produce unique, diverse and community-driven programming.
